Big Brothers Big Sisters Seeks Volunteers for Virtual Mentoring Program

TRAVERSE CITY — Big Brothers Big Sisters (Bigs) has launched a virtual mentoring program to serve children in need in Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet counties.  There is a critical need for more men and women in the community to step up and become a Big Brother or Big Sister to mentor children who are feeling especially isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bigs is conducting business remotely with a team available to help new volunteers make connections with children. Every step in the enrollment and mentoring process is accomplished virtually. Bigs and Littles meet a minimum of once a week via phone, Facetime, email or video-conferencing. Training is provided to mentors and Bigs’ professional staff are available every step of the way to offer customized support and ideas for virtual activities.

“It’s easier than ever to become a Big,” said Executive Director Cecilia Chesney. “Children need a mentor now more than ever. Please help us to protect, nurture and support them by becoming a Big today.”

Join Bigs’ mission to “ignite the power and promise of youth” through one-to-one mentoring relationships and a network of volunteers ranging in age from 16 to 86 years and become a Big today.  Together we can change lives.
